Our ambition for teaching mathematics at Marshland Primary Academy:
We have adopted a mastery approach using the White Rose resource to deliver the three main aims of the curriculum: fluency, reasoning and problem solving. Our mission is for all pupils to access their year group curriculum and to enjoy and succeed in mathematics, equipped with an understanding of mathematics that will be relevant and useful in their future learning and life in the 21st century.
The White Rose scheme has been designed to provide learners with a deep conceptual understanding of mathematical principles and to equip them with the skills to communicate in precise mathematical language, while becoming mathematical thinkers. We create a ‘can do’ culture and pupils are taught not to be afraid of mathematics; that errors are a crucial party of the learning process.
Through this programme our pupils will gain a full access to the National Curriculum. Topics are sequenced in a logical progression that will allow pupils to establish connections and draw comparisons, which will develop independence. Pupils will be regularly challenged through problem solving and reasoning tasks which will also develop resilience and confidence.
